The American Taliban

Ideological Purity, Compromise is Weakness, A Fundamental Belief in Scriptural Literal-ism Denying Science, Unmoved by The Facts, Undeterred by new Information, Tribal Mentality, Intolerance of Decent, Pathological Hatred of the US Government, A Demonetization of Education, A Hostile Fear of Progress, A Need to Control Women's Bodies; they call themselves the Tea Party, they call themselves conservatives, they can even call themselves Republicans, but Republicans certainly shouldn't, but we should call them what they are THE AMERICAN TALIBAN. (From The Newsroom on HBO)

15% of the US population is openly non religious, I would guess to say that number is actually much higher except many probably live in Taliban country. According to a recent survey "Despite a high level of religious adherence, only 9% of Americans in a 2008 poll said religion was the most important thing in their life". I'm not knocking religion or anyone's beliefs, until they start to force those beliefs on me. This is precisely what the ultra right wing tea party and Christian bible thumpers are trying to do in our country. Just like the Nazi's did in world war 2 and now the radical Muslims are doing today, they are trying to force their views on everyone around them.

The funiest part of this whole Tea Party thing is that it claims to be a grass roots movement of the everyday american for the everyday American, when in fact that's the farthest from the truth. Every comedian with a news related talk show has spent years just openly destroying that misrepresentation and how it's really just a front by a few multi billionaires to create less government and regulation to help them achieve higher corporate profits. This reality has been openly proven time and time again, yet these ultra right wing idiots who refuse to get their information from anywhere other than Fox News, which is owned by right wing multi billionaire Rupert Murdoch and used to promote his and his ultra wealthy friends objectives. Talk about propaganda, Cuba doesn't hold a candle to Fox News and the Tea Party.

Oh and lets not forget the vast array a deep thinkers the Tea Party has given us.

* Mitt Romney who can't seem to figure out which side he's on of anything. ''My plan will create 23 million new jobs." 45 minutes later: ''Government does not create jobs. Government does not create jobs.'' - Mitt Romney, during the second presidential debate

* Herman Cain, who seems to know less about foreign affairs than Sarah Palin. "OK, Libya. [pause] President Obama supported the uprising, correct? President Obama called for the removal of Gadhafi. I just wanted to make sure we're talking about the same thing before I say, 'Yes, I agreed' or 'No I didn't agree.' I do not agree with the way he handled it for the following reason — nope, that's a different one. [pause] I gotta go back and see. I got all this stuff twirling around in my head. Specifically, what are you asking me that I agree or not disagree with Obama?" - Herman Cain

* Rick Santorum who if he had his way would have you publicly stoned for pre marital sex. "One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country.... Many of the Christian faith have said, well, that's okay, contraception is okay. It's not okay. It's a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be." —Rick Santorum

* Rick Perry who has trouble remembering 3 things at once and wanted to kill off Big Bird. "I will tell you: It's three agencies of government, when I get there, that are gone: Commerce, Education and the -- what's the third one there? Let's see. ... OK. So Commerce, Education and the -- ... The third agency of government I would -- I would do away with the Education, the ... Commerce and -- let's see -- I can't. The third one, I can't. Sorry. Oops." –Rick Perry

* Michele Bachmann who apparently talks to god. ''I don't know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We've had an earthquake; we've had a hurricane. He said, 'Are you going to start listening to me here?' Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we've got to rein in the spending.'' - Michele Bachmann

* Sarah Palin who's statements can only leave me scratching my head that she was elected the Governor of Alaska and was actually the Republican Vice Presidential candidate. "The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil." - Sarah Palin

* Newt Gingrich who wants to bring back the cold war space race, I guess he's not up on the fact that we are partners with Russia in the International Space Station and now live in a global economy. “By the end of my second term, we will have the first permanent base on the moon and it will be American,” - Newt Gingrich

* Ron Paul who's been called the father of the Tea Party is actually a Libertarian and a doctor and thinks that we should let sick people without insurance die, I guess he forgot about that little oath he took. I actually wish he wasn't so crazy because I actually agree with alot of his points of view about liberty, but then again he's crazy.

History Channel

What the hell is going on with the History Channel. When did the hillbillies take over. Didn't know that 300 shows in a row of hillbilly hand fishing, Ice Road Trucking, Alligator Hunting & Pawn Shops was history. At least Discovery Channel has American Guns with Paige Wyatt I can watch her all day long. Does anyone agree with me or are you all mesmerized by the suspense of the next alligator catch. Show me someone getting an arm ripped off by the gator and I'll watch. Why are the uneducated taking over the networks, is there really that many more people in our society that dropped out of elementary school. Is pre scripted produced reality television of backwoods hillbillies the best we can do.

I remember it well…the day way back in 1995 when I learned that A&E Networks were going to launch the History Channel. I was about as excited as a history guy could be. Back in those days, they actually had some shows that dealt with history. Not the deeply analytical kind you can find rocketing out of the hallowed halls of academia, but history nonetheless.

What happened? Heading over to the History Channel website, here is what I see. Swamp People, Full Metal Jousting, Pawn Stars, Pickers, Restorers, and a lot of other “reality” type shows (appealing to the lowest common denominator) that deal more with people who “wrastle” alligators than with any topics of historical interest. And for the cherry on top – you can always watch America’s favorite insipid pinhead, Larry the Cable Guy. His show…Only in America features moose kissing and various other asinine activities that apparently only take place here in the good ‘ole US of A. No wonder the rest of the world thinks we are idiots.

I challenge the History Channel to air something of historical value. It doesn't have to be heavy-handed academics – just history. Or…maybe it would just be better if you changed your name to something else.
They should just change it to the Hillbilly Network (Can still use the H logo).
